Cuba

This most populous Caribbean island nation of 11 million people has a complex history of foreign influences since Christopher Columbus landed on it and claimed it for Spain. For more than 50 years it has been run by Fidel Castro's administration and has been a one-party Communist system since 1965. A truly unique place seemingly resilient to the progresses of the outside world it feels like stepping back in time with crumbling colonial (and some post revolutionary communist brutalist) architecture and vehicles well beyond their expected intended lifespans.

Interestingly in 2006, Cuba was the only nation in the world which met the WWF's definition of sustainable development.

A selection of photos mainly from Havana but including the town of Trinidad from February, 2013.
